History says that the Taj Mahal was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz. Mumtaz Mahal was the third wife of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Mumtaz’s death happened while giving birth to her 14th child. This death was in the year 1631. Shah Jahan was saddened by the death of his wife. The construction of the Taj Mahal was started the very next year for his wife’s eternal memory.
Ustad Ahmed Lahori and Ustad Isa were the chief architects of the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal is made of white marble. The total height of the Taj Mahal is 73 meters. The Taj Mahal was built with materials brought from different parts of Asia, and various stones were brought from different parts of India and Afghanistan, Tibet, China, Arabia, and Sri Lanka for construction.
History tells us that after the construction of the Taj Mahal, his son Aurangzeb imprisoned Shah Jahan in Agra Fort and died there. Later he was buried next to Mumtaz.
