Happiness can be found anywhere, but it is never something we can buy. That is why happiness is priceless. True happiness is individual and it is eternal. It resides in the heart. If we base happiness on material possessions, wealth, or status, it will vanish when those things change or disappear. Happiness does not live in things; it resides in the heart. If we place our happiness in objects or people, when those things age or people drift apart, our happiness will fade.
Some people think that a life without problems is a happy life. However, the realization that struggles are part of life helps in preserving happiness. Don’t wait to be happy after solving every problem or overcoming every obstacle. Life often doesn’t treat us the way we expect. People don’t always act as we want. Even in these circumstances, we must preserve our joy. To do this, we must have a clear understanding of what life truly is.
Life can be compared to a garden. There are many types of plants, fruits, and trees in that garden. While roses may seem beautiful, they have thorns. All flowers are beautiful, but only some have fragrance, while others are picked for rituals. However when viewed as a whole, the garden is beautiful. Life is like that too. It is a world of diverse experiences. A rose’s beauty is not diminished by its thorns, and the lack of fragrance does not make a flower any less significant. Similarly negative experiences or people behaving poorly do not make our lives worthless. It is the mindset that transforms life into a happy one.
Often it is our mindset that either robs us of happiness or creates it. Happiness is like a lamb caught among thorny bushes. When we get stuck in negative experiences or viewpoints, happiness cannot emerge within us. If we focus only on what is missing, we will never experience the joy of what we have. When we mourn the lost, we cannot take pride in what we have gained. It is when we shift from negativity to positivity that happiness fills our lives. To achieve this we must be grateful for what we have.
We shouldn’t wait for life to treat us well in order to be happy. It is when we treat life well that life becomes joyful. Sometimes, life may not need us, but we always need life. So while we are alive choose happiness. Even amid the toughest challenges, if we manage to hold on to hope, our happiness will never be lost. Look inward and find happiness. Only then will our happiness be complete.
