LET US LEARN TO SAY ‘SORRY’!

Date:

Do you think that to live in love means to live in such a way that you never have to say sorry? If you think so, it is time for you to reconsider your notion. Because, any relationship here on earth involves conflicts, big or small. Conflicts can occur not only in marital relationships, but also in friendships, official relationships and even between those who share a common room.

Whatever be the relationship and whichever the problem be, what matters is whether you are able to reconcile. Are you able to apologize ‘sincerely?’ When you apologize from your heart, your relationships will deepen and you will be able to restore your old relationship with that person with the same, original warmth and cordiality. But, often we limit our apologies to mere ‘sorry’. “I told you ‘sorry.’ Why are you still showing a long face?” This is our attitude often. But, there is a proper way of apologizing.  Only when you apologize properly will you be able to restore your old relationship. For that, we need to be aware of certain things:

Express your remorse

Firstly, express your remorse over what you have done or said to a person, which has hurt that person. The tone of saying ‘sorry’ is very important. The other one should feel that your apology is sincere and from the heart. Some people say ‘sorry’ mockingly or insultingly or even in a way as if they are not accepting their mistake. Such a kind of apologizing will not help.

Give  explanation

There may be personal and emotional reasons behind your sudden outbursts. It could happen that you got angry with this person when you are perturbed with some other problems. This could occur when you go to office carrying a grudge against your spouse or children or vice versa.  It could also happen due to misunderstanding. Whatever it is, explain it candidly to that person.

Take responsibility for what you have said and done

Most people do not admit their mistakes. Majority of people get angry with those who point out their mistakes. Take responsibility for what you have said and done. If you are convinced that you have done something wrong, do not try to escape from that.

Swear that you will not repeat it

Give word to that person that you will not repeat what you have done or said against him/her. Do your best to keep your word. It is not easy to forgive those who break their word, be it your spouse or friend.

Apologize

After explaining the reasons that led you to the wrongdoing and taking its responsibility, apologize to that person. Forgive a person who apologizes to you, if he is sincere and deserving. When one dares to forgive, he is actually sacrificing his pride.

You need to respect that noble act. Forgive old wrongdoings and enter into a renewed love relationship.
