ARE YOU EXPERIENCING LONELINESS?

Date:

We live in a world where the conveniences of communication media is rampant. Nonetheless, the number of people who experience loneliness is on the increase, according to studies. Today, we have more friends on social media than we have in real life. Yet, we fall prey to loneliness. People face a situation in which they are unable to laugh or speak from their heart. Some people have all the conveniences one needs in life, but are unable to smile from their heart. Neither internet nor social media can help you to come out of this loneliness.

When you have passed through a day, you will be startled to realize that you have not even talked with anybody on that day. Senior citizens are those who are most affected by this scenario. Yet, a study conducted by BBC Radio states that this phenomenon is on the increase among the youth as well. According to this study conducted among 55,000 individuals, 34 percent of people, who are aged between 25 and 34, are suffering from loneliness. People aged between 34 and 44 constitute 36 percent. Researchers warn that loneliness is spreading rapidly like a pandemic. Many people take recourse to cigarettes, drugs and alcohol to escape loneliness.

There are various reasons for a person to fall prey to loneliness. Besides common reasons like orphanhood, love failure, old age and infirmity, one can experience loneliness even in married life. Toxic relationships can lead one into the clutches of loneliness. There are several married couples, who never understand each other or talk with each other even while they reside under the same roof.

According to experts, loneliness can be categorized into various segments. Emotional loneliness is one among them. It can be caused by a situation in which one is devoid of the companionship of a friend or a family member, difficulty in learning a new language, inability to adapt oneself to a new circumstance etc. Children who are living with a single parent and those who suffer from physical or intellectual disability also go through emotional loneliness. One can come out of circumstance-induced loneliness by formation of companionship and by understanding language and culture.
Third kind of loneliness is social loneliness. It consists of loneliness induced by timidity, lack of self-confidence, inferiority complex etc. which hold them back from mingling with the society. Psychologists opine that this kind of loneliness can be solved by various approaches.
Fourth kind of loneliness is chronic loneliness. These people carry loneliness in their lives as an inseparable habit.

Whatever be the reason for your loneliness, a man is not supposed to live in loneliness. He/she is a social animal. Hence, those who suffer from loneliness should make an effort from their part to come out of loneliness; meanwhile others around that person also should help him/her to emerge from the bondage of loneliness.
