“Introduce yourself. What are your strengths? What do your colleagues say about you?”
If you have ever attended an interview, you would have faced these questions. Most people are tend to give a detailed description about their capabilities and positive sides in order to impress the interview board.
But, according to career experts, this is a wrong practice. What the interviewers intend to know when they ask these questions is to check how self-confident you are and how powerful is your communication skill. The interview board is scrutinizing each and every word you utter. So, understand that it is not a time to boast about yourself, but to speak with confidence. For this, you need to prepare well. How can a company believe in someone who has no faith in oneself? Let us check how the words uttered by the candidates during the interview are proven.
I am a hard worker
It is true that a company will be happy to know that the candidate is a hard worker. But, how will the interview board know that you are a hard worker? You can convince them only when you start working in that company. So, instead of saying that you are a hard worker, try to find out ways to convince them and give them proof that you are a hard worker. Which means, carry with you a recommendation letter by your previous authorities, which testifies that you are a hard worker? Or it can be the certificates of your success achieved by hard work.
I am a Team Leader
Before you answer this question, understand who a team leader is. A Team Leader does not mean a person who works together with his colleagues or co-operates with his team. A good team leader should be a person who is able to adapt with the changing situations, treat his colleagues with respect, listen to them and find solutions when a problem or crisis arises. He should also have a definite goal. He should not take all the credits for himself, but be able to share the credit with his team. A good team leader should always use the word ‘we’ instead of ‘I’. So, put proof before the interview board that you are a good team leader rather than saying ‘I am a good team leader.’ It is also good to share your previous experience of leading a team.
I am very dynamic
Instead of saying ‘I am dynamic’, demonstrate it. A dynamic person will always exude positive energy. The board can perceive it by the way you communicate and the diverse topics you choose for communication and your innovativeness in presenting it. Your perspective and behavior should speak louder than your words.
I am creative
Instead of claiming that you are creative, present before the interview board documents that prove your creativity such as your blog, website, art works etc.
