Golda Meir who became Israel’s first female Prime Minister was known as a determined and strong-willed leader. After serving as Israel’s Minister of Labor and Foreign Minister, she became the Prime Minister. Golda Meir who started her life as a teacher once opened up about her journey to becoming Prime Minister in this way:
“When I was young I never thought of myself as beautiful. Whenever I looked in the mirror, I realized that. I understood that beauty alone would not help me attract others or succeed in anything. That was when I began to look inward. What abilities do I have? What can I do to make my abilities beneficial to others? This thinking, this inquiry, and this discovery have brought me to where I am today.”
Some people place excessive importance on outward beauty. However internal beauty and strength are far more important than external appearance. If Golda Meir had believed she had the beauty she desired, her thoughts may have taken a different direction. But she was able to see not having beauty as a blessing. That made her ready to explore what she truly had within her. This led her to reach heights that many with outward beauty could never attain.
Let us not get lost in external beauty or superficial distractions. Instead, let us discover what abilities we truly possess. Take pride in them. Be ready to utilize those abilities for the benefit of others. Many of us fail in life not because we don’t know what to do, but because we are not ready to look inward. Therefore, look within. Strength lies within and so does success.
