HOW TO DISCERN A SINCERE FRIEND?

Date:

Recently I happened to watch the interview of a South Indian film actor. He was a renowned actor with a great fan following and many super hits in his kitty. Gradually, his films began to fail in the box office back to back; and consequently, his opportunity to act in movies decreased considerably. Thus, he began to act in other language films in villain roles and supporting roles for livelihood. Slowly, he even lost those supporting roles as well. The number of people who called him over the phone diminished and eventually there were hardly anyone to call him. Even his make-up man left him. It was the sad tale of a yesteryear superstar.

This is a phenomenon commonly seen nowadays. There will be many people to accompany you when you are going through your days of success; but all of them will abandon you when you are going through dark days of life. Actually, whom did those people love? They did not love the person; neither was their love selfless. They loved fame and status.

When you are not able to repeat your success or when your fame fades, they will abandon you in the wilderness of loneliness. They will not heed to your calls. It is during such dark days of our lives that we discern the real colour of our friends, spouse, relatives, neighbors and colleagues. True friendship and true love are proven during the days of defeat.

So, do not blindly trust those who accompany you when you are on the heights of success. There will be many people to follow you when you are rich. But, when you lose money and fame, they will shun you. They will blame your failures and deride you. Be watchful of your companions when you are going through days of success. They may be friends of your prosperous days, who may not stay with you all your life.

Never forget those who cling to you during your dark days. They will stay with you always. Because their love is sincere. They desire your good and dream of your success. Keep them close to you even during the days of your success. They will be your strength. Our dark days are actually an opportunity to discern sincere relationships.
