It is generally seen that the initial warmth and love between husbands and wives gradually grows cold as time progresses. Husbands and wives recede from each other to poles apart. They are not able to understand each other and rifts occur between them. Why is this happening? What is a solution for this?

John Gottman, a marriage researcher and Dana McNeil, a family therapist opine that a profound friendship between husband and wife helps to strengthen their relationship. Friendship is a vital factor in successful married life. Everyone likes friendships irrespective of gender. It plays an important role in married life as well. Consideration, interest and approval are parts of friendship. These three factors are the foundation of a marital relationship. A spouse should be ready to give space to his counterpart in marital life. Never forget that an oak tree never grows up under the shade of other trees. If your marital relationship is founded on friendship, it will not be shaken by any storm.

Capability and willingness to think together as a team is another important thing. When the husband is sick, the wife should feel that it is her own sickness. Likewise, if the wife is insulted, the husband must feel that he himself is insulted. Both of them should together face a problem which vexes any one of them. In large corporate companies, especially software companies, a strong team is functioning. Each of the members are mutually complementing. That is how they complete big projects entrusted with them. It is the same with married life. It is a team work. Go ahead by sharing your talents, correcting each other, teaching each other and supporting each other.

Creative vision can enhance married life. Some couples give importance only to negative things. Instead, they should be optimistic. In case one partner is lacking in optimism, the other partner should be able to inculcate optimism in the other.

Incapability to manage stress can pave the way to the crumbling of married life. The couples should understand how his/her stress is affecting their marital relationship. Unfortunately, many couples are not aware of this. There are many cases in which the whole family is suffering by the stress of one of the spouses.

Yet another thing is dealing with conflicts. In married life, disagreements, arguments and difference of opinion are common. Take care that these things do not lead you into conflicts. Each one has his or her own opinion. But, you should not persist on your opinion and hold that your opinion alone is right. You should also be open to the opinion of your partner.

Experience joy when you are together. Do not try to evade the presence of your partner; instead find time to spend time with him/her and rejoice in it. In this hectic world caught up in the spider web of social media, people are becoming like isolated islands. The couples need to take a break from social media and fix a time to spend time together. Find time to dine together and watch TV together. Go for a drive or a trip to your favorite movie or to the park.
